September 4 Deadline to Comment on US Dept of Labor's Overtime Rule on Exempt Employees

The US Department of Labor (DOL) has proposed a significant change to white collar exemptions under the Fair Labor Standards Act, including an unprecedented increase of over 100 percent to the minimum salary threshold (from $455 per week to $970). This will result in greatly limited workplace flexibility and increased labor costs for businesses across the country.

The US Chamber of Commerce warns that “making more employees eligible for overtime by severely restricting the exemptions will not guarantee more income, but instead will negatively impact small businesses and drastically limit employment opportunities. Additionally, many reclassified employees will lose benefits, flexibility, status, and opportunities for advancement.” For more information, see the Partnership to Protect Workforce Opportunity's website.

To act by the September 4 deadline, click here to send a letter to the DOL and your representatives in Congress.
