Middle School Tour Hosts Needed

One of the ways to encourage young people growing up in the Chippewa Valley to stay here and begin their careers is to give them an opportunity to see those jobs in action right here in the area. This complements the Academic and Career Planning curriculum being taught in local schools, and provides a chance for local employers to give them a taste of the kinds of jobs available right here in the Eau Claire area.

We are currently putting together a list of employers willing to host 2 groups of approximately 20-25 seventh grade students from Eau Claire's DeLong Middle School on Wednesday, March 11 in the afternoon.

The exact schedule and commitment will depend upon the overall response from employers. However, we anticipate we will ask sites to host two consecutive sets of students each for an experience lasting about 60 minutes. Depending upon what's the most appropriate way to showcase your careers, this could include a tour, a hands-on experience or exercise, etc. Since these are middle school students, it will be important for it to be interactive and to keep their attention. Students would be brought to your location by school bus, with the first group likely around 11:45 a.m. and a second around 1:00 p.m. (subject to change).

If interested please email Danielle Kummer and include the following information:

  • Which careers you can showcase during the experience
  • Your initial thoughts on what kind of experience (tour, interactive exercise, what they would see, etc.)

The Metropolis Resort & Conference Center

5150 Fairview Drive
Cost to Attend: Free!

Join the Chamber's Health & Wellness program for a discussion on Financial Health.

Todays financial world is incredibly complicated!  Employees and employers together face many challenges.  On top of that, financial health is a leading cause of stress in the workplace today.  This discussion, led by University of Wisconsin Eau Claire Finance Professor Mark Alfuth, will explore the issues of financial health and the importance of providing opportunities for employees to discuss these critical issues.  Providing financial health education and resources can lead to more productive, efficient employees.

About our presenter:

Mark Alfuth is currently a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Finance at the University of Wisconsin Eau Claire.  For the past 4 years Mark has been a full-time instructor teaching advanced investing techniques, wealth management, and principles of finance.  Prior to being full time, Mark was an adjunct lecturer for 14 years in the department.  Mark “retired” from the business world after 28 years of experience.  Mark spent 15 years with American Express in a variety of financial roles and then 13 years as CFO of American Public Media Group (at the time consisted of Minnesota Public Radio, Southern California Public Radio, Classical South Florida, American Public Media, and other entities).   With this experience in both for-profit and non-profit businesses, Mark has also consulted on a limited basis.  Mark has an MBA from the University of Minnesota and an undergraduate degree from the University of Wisconsin Eau Claire.

26th Annual Chippewa Valley Rally

Tuesday, February 25, 2020
Best Western Premier Park Hotel & Wisconsin State Capitol in Madison

Bringing the Chippewa Valley's Voice to Madison. This annual event is organized by the Chippewa Valley Chamber Alliance, representing the Chippewa Falls, Menomonie and Eau Claire Chambers of Commerce. It's is a unique opportunity to bring the collective voice of Chippewa Valley business and community leaders like you to Madison all at one time. With workforce issues at the top of the agenda, we'll be there to emphasize the impact on our region of initiatives being undertaken or considered by state government, including education, infrastructure and more.

How It Works: You'll be part of a team of several dozen area business and community leaders traveling to Madison for small group meetings at legislative offices, a luncheon, informal discussions with lawmakers and staff at the closing reception, and networking with others from the area who are interested in state government policy.

Optional round trip same-day bus transportation is available from Eau Claire (choose that option when you register).

Discounted hotel rates are available to those traveling on their own and staying overnight.  Call the Park Hotel at 608-285-8000 and ask for the Chippewa Valley Rally Room Block.

Cancellation policy: If you find later you can't attend, cancel at least 7 days before to receive a full refund.

Sponsorships will be available for local businesses and organizations who want to show support to help make this annual event possible.  For information, contact Scott Rogers at the Eau Claire Chamber: rogers@eauclairechamber.org
