Thank You Chamber Interns

The Chamber has been fortunate to have had five UW-Eau Claire students working alongside staff during the 2019-20 school year.  With classes moving to a virtual format in late March, these student interns faced the challenge of finishing their school year remotely and unfortunately had to end their internship experiences with the Chamber earlier than anticipated.  Nonetheless, each intern brought their own individual talents and worked amazingly hard during their time with us.

The Chamber would like to acknowledge the following student interns:

 Alyce
Alyce Bruenig, Educational Foundation Intern

Clayton

Clayton Cavanaugh, Governmental Affairs & Workforce Intern

Ally

Ally Howard, Creative Design Intern

Amy

Amy Oldenburg, Governmental Affairs & Workforce Intern

Kelsy

Kelsy Schultz, Communications & Events Intern

The Chamber staff and board of directors wish to thank these five talented individuals and wish them the best as some of them continue their college experience and others move forward into their career paths.  It was a pleasure working with each of them!

Eau Claire County Updates Health Order to Address One-on-One Businesses

The Eau Claire City-County Health Department on Monday updated its COVID-19 Prevention and Control Order to address “those one-on-one personal services that by their very nature cannot maintain a six (6) foot physical distancing.”

The new order, effective May 18, includes a list of requirements such as the number of people allowed as part of the service, face coverings and other components. “This update comes after public health experts reviewed evidence and best practices for how to protect the public and workers who provide personal services, and are in close proximity for a duration of time,” according the a news release accompanying the updated order.

Health Department Director Lieske Giese also said some of the language in the overall order was revised to clarify recommendations vs. requirements. Like the previous order, it remains in effect through Thursday, May 28.

Is Your Business Open or Reopening?  Share Your Information Via the Chamber Website

With the current and eventual reopening of many small businesses in the Chippewa Valley, the Chamber would like to keep the community and its members informed on how businesses will proceed moving forward.  If your business is currently open or taking steps to reopen in the near future, please take a few minutes to email us the following information:

  • Days and hours of business operations
  • Consumer expectations, i.e. masks encouraged, required, not required
  • Is curbside service available?
  • Are appointments required?
  • In-store customer limit
  • Any other pertinent information - steps you are taking to ensure safety, etc.

The Chamber will be creating a page on its website devoted to business reopening information.  This page will be continuously updated as we receive information from our members.  In the meantime, we encourage you to reference the reopening guidelines provided by Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC).  The WEDC site breaks down each type of business by sector and gives guidance, resources and best practices to use within your business.

Please send your business updates to: mills@eauclairechamber.org

With everything happening in the world right now the Eau Claire Chamber wanted to bring you a video series every Wednesday that would highlight how businesses are stepping up and making a positive impact in the midst of all this change and uncertainty. We are proud to have such a wonderful community to call home.

Leadership Eau Claire™
Accepting Applications for Class of 2021

Application Deadline is Friday, June 5, 2020!

The Chamber is currently accepting applications for its Leadership Eau Claire™ (LEC) Class of 2021. The goal of the program is to enhance participants’ community knowledge and leadership qualities through skill building exercises, activities and educational days. During the nine-month program, participants discuss the issues facing the community, develop the leadership skills necessary to assume leadership roles and are exposed to involvement opportunities in the community. More information is available here on the Chamber’s website and you can download an application here.

“Leadership Eau Claire™ has far exceeded my expectations. Through the program I have built lasting relationships with people from various businesses. LEC highlighted many of the good things that Eau Claire has to offer but also helped me understand the issues that our community is facing. More importantly, it opened my eyes to the plethora of volunteer opportunities and emphasized how we all play a role in making Eau Claire a better community.”

– Kallie Robb, Xcel Energy, Class of 2019

If you have questions, contact Casey Schumacher via email (schumacher@eauclairechamber.org) or by phone 715-858-0614.
