Event Description:
Working with refugees and immigrants. As service providers encounter more diverse populations in their practice, it's important to understand and address the ethical, systemic and practice issues that can arise when serving individuals with limited English proficiency (LEP) and different cultural backgrounds. These clients may include refugees, immigrants or asylum seekers. They may be adults or children. Some may have left difficult or traumatic circumstances and may be facing a variety of life challenges in their new country. Using fictitious but typical examples of refugee clients who are referred for psychological testing, we'll conceptualize case scenarios from taking the initial phone call through completing the evaluation and sending out the report. You'll learn how to manage issues prior to the patient's arrival, during the service delivery and after the session. Each section will address the issues that providers will want to understand to deliver ethical and culturally informed services. $159 per person; 6 CE hours – includes instruction, handouts and refreshments
