2017 Human Resources Conference

The Chamber and the Chippewa Valley Society of Human Resource Management (CVSHRM) will present its sixth annual Human Resource Conference specifically geared for human resource professionals, small business owners and managers. The conference will provide a variety of sessions to keep the HR professional or business owner in the know about key issues affecting the workforce. SHRM and HRCI credit approval are pending.

Welcome and Opening Keynote: 8 - 9 a.m.
The conference will begin with a keynote presentation from decision from Jim Chiolino, the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development's Equal Rights Division (ERD) deputy administrator and deputy, Labor Standards Bureau on ERD issues and trends, including proposed rule changes and legal decision This "what's up" in Wisconsin labor and employment law opening session is a "can't miss" opportunity!

Breakout Sessions
After the keynote session, attendees will have the opportunity to attend four of the breakout sessions For more detailed information on each of the breakout sessions, download the brochure.

Lunch
We will take a break from sessions for a networking lunch featuring a variety of HR hot topics.

In this session, Deb Marshall will share survey history, how and why it has evolved, what the future holds and how best to use the information. Marshall is a senior manager in HR consulting at Wipfli LLP and has been the Wage Survey chairperson for most of the 18 years we have conducted it.

Accepting Applications
The Chamber is currently accepting applications for its Youth Leadership Eau Claire class. Do you know current sophomores from Altoona, Augusta, Fall Creek, Memorial, North or Regis high school who wants to develop leadership skills and become more involved in the community? Encourage them to apply! Application deadline is April 8. More information can be found on the Chamber's website.

The Eau Claire Chamber Education Foundation is seeking sponsors to support its Youth Leadership Eau Claire program. Each year, about 70 students apply for the class with enrollment of only 36. The program is made possible with $500 sponsorships for each student. Please consider becoming a sponsor and helping us develop our future community leaders. If your business would be interested in providing a $500 sponsorship for a student to participate in the program, please contact Becky Seelen (715-858-0615). Thanks for the consideration.



Highlight Your Business Through Business of the Week

Want to highlight your business on the web and social media? The Chamber has a new opportunity for its Chamber members to do just that!

Starting this week, one Chamber member will have the opportunity to be highlighted with a photo on the homepage of the Chamber's website which will then hyperlink to a page on the site with an article on the business. You can also have additional photos or a YouTube video on the page.

For more exposure, we will share this information on our social media platforms, Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter. In addition, the top ad position on The Update will indicate the member as Business of the Week with a hyperlink to the article.

The photo on our homepage will be featured from Monday through Sunday but the other information will remain indefinitely!

Join our area State legislators for an update on this session's key issues as the legislature wraps up the 2017-18 session, and how they impact the Chippewa Valley. Invited lawmakers include Senators Terry Moulton (R-23) and Kathleen Vinehout (D-31); and Representatives Kathleen Bernier (R-68), Bob Kulp (R-69), Warren Petryk (R-93), Treig Pronschinske (R-92), Rob Stafsholt (R-29), Rob Summerfield (R-67) and Dana Wachs (D-91). Spring Primary Election February 20

The Wisconsin Spring Primary Election is Tuesday, February 20. For most voters, the only race which will appear on local ballots is the statewide contest for State Supreme Court. The election will narrow the field from three candidates to two for the April 3 Spring General Election.

Voters in Eau Claire County Board District 10 will also narrow the candidate field to two for the April election. Candidates include Nancy Coffey, Kris Verbracken and incumbent Mike Conlin.

Voting Hours: Polls will be open from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. To find where you vote, and more information about voter registration, go to My Vote Wisconsin and enter your name and address. Voter ID is required for this election.

Mayo Clinic Health System Director of Research and Innovation Announcement POSTPONED

The announcement of Timothy Nelson, M.D., Ph.D. as the new director of Research and Innovation for Mayo Clinic Health System in northwest Wisconsin has been POSTPONED. This event was originally scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 21 at 10 a.m. in the Auditorium in Eau Claire.

Unfortunately, Dr. Nelson was recently injured in a skiing accident, and is unable to attend on Wednesday. He will be back on his feet in no time. Mayo Clinic Health System want to make sure everyone has an opportunity to meet him as soon as possible, and we will reschedule the event. Mayo Clinic Health System will send out an updated notice as soon as a new date is determined.
